Founded by the Chagoury Group in 1988, Hitech is now one of Nigeria’s top civil engineering companies.
Hitech specialises in civil engineering and general infrastructure projects including road works, street lighting, railways, drainage systems, bridges, dams, earthworks, asphalt overlay, water supply, irrigation schemes, dredging, and marine installations.
Hitech has developed into one of the leading civil engineering and infrastructure contractors in Nigeria. The company has ambitions to expand its operations internationally, particularly to other West African states, and has already tendered for contracts abroad.
One of Hitech’s most high profile projects to date involving environmental sensitivity and technical knowledge, is a sea wall along Bar Beach, on Victoria Island, Lagos. This shoreline preservation project involves the construction of a 1km-long sea defence to prevent further erosion of Bar Beach, which threatens Victoria Island – the downtown area of Lagos. Approximately 100 metres of shoreline has been washed away in the last 20 years. This is the first project of its kind in Nigeria, and the first in the whole of Africa to use advanced ‘x-blocs’, enormous x-shaped concrete blocks designed to dissipate the energy of waves.
Hitech’s clients include:
- The Aluminium Smelting Company of Nigeria
- The Federal Ministry of Works
- Abia State Government
- Bayelsa State Government
- Lagos State Government
- Nigerian Breweries PLC, and
- ITB Nigeria Limited, a Chagoury Group company
Hitech’s workforce, like all Chagoury Group employees are covered by a global health scheme. This extends to the families of long service employees and key-skill workers.
The Ideal Eagle Hospital in Lagos provides high quality medical facilities for staff of Hitech as part of their workplace benefits.
